Spreading Salam (good wishes)

Ubqari Magazine - October 2015

Respected Hakim Sahib, As Salam Alaikum! Monthly Ubqari is an excellent magazine and I buy it regularly. May Allah bless you with long life. I’m sending an article for Ubqari.

Spreading Salam (good wishes): What is Salam? It is a distinguished quality of a Muslim that he spreads Salam. In Islam, Salam is not only a social tradition created in different ages by humans and being traditionalized. While ordering the believers in His Book for saying Salam, Allah says, “O those who believe! Except your own homes, do not enter others houses unless you get permission and say Salam to that family”. Likewise, is has been ordered in numerous Ahadith to spread Salam and saying Salam to everyone. According to a tradition by Sayedina Abdullah Bin Umro Bin Al Aas (رضی اللہ عنہ), someone asked Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) that what is the best practice in Islam? He said, “Feed and say Salam [greet] to everyone whether you know them or not”. According to Hazrat Mohammad (ﷺ) the one who initiates Salam, deserves Allah’s closeness and favor. According to a tradition by Sayedina Abu Hurairah         (رضی اللہ عنہ), the rider should greet the pedestrian, pedestrian should greet those who are sitting and small group should greet the bigger gathering. According to a tradition in Bukhari, younger people should (greet) say Salam to the elders. Sayedina Baraa Bin Aazib (رضی اللہ عنہ) said that the Messenger (ﷺ) ordered us to follow seven things i.e. 1: Visiting the patient 2: Attending the funerals 3: Replying the one who sneezes 4: Helping the weak 5: Supporting the sufferer 6: Spreading Salam 7:  Abiding by the oath.
